With the noble principle LET'S UNITE OUR HANDS TO SERVE, we strive to empower visually impaired girls to achieve self-sufficiency in fundamental necessities, including education and economic independence.
On September 11, 2019, guided by the counsel of Mr. Balamurali and under the leadership of Mrs. Padmavathy Anand, the Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust was established. The trust was initiated with the esteemed retired Professor Dr. Thayarammal as its founder.
Our foundation extends its services by temporarily operating a free hostel for blind men, preparing them for competitive examinations conducted by both central and state governments. This initiative underscores our commitment to empower visually impaired individuals with the tools needed to excel in various fields.
Through the foundation's endeavours and the gracious support of compassionate donors who hold the well-being of the visually impaired community at heart, we have been able to run a free hostel facility. Situated at 2/47, 7th Street, Sourashtra Nagar, Choolaimedu, this hostel is designed to cater to the needs of blind students hailing from rural backgrounds who pursue higher education in Chennai. To date, this initiative has enabled more than 50 blind students to attain degrees such as B.A, B.Ed, and M.A, granting them the foundation to lead self-sustained lives. At present, the hostel is home to 15 blind students who are actively pursuing their higher education.
Our efforts also encompass supporting visually impaired entrepreneurs who operate businesses in trains, thereby facilitating their financial independence. Additionally, we strive to create employment opportunities tailored to the needs of the blind community. In our pursuit to bring joy to the lives of the visually impaired, we organize excursions to various destinations, providing opportunities for those who may otherwise remain confined to their homes.
Our Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust is led by Dr. Raja as the President, Mrs. Jayamala Nandagopal as the Secretary, and Mrs. Viji Raja as the Treasurer. In the same vein, Mrs. Saranya Venkatesan serves as Joint Secretary, Mr. Venkatesh as a Treasurer, and Mr. NandaGopal as Vice President. Until every visually impaired student successfully completes her higher education and can seamlessly integrate into society, we remain committed to providing our "Thaaikarangal" to the community.
This is our Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust's unwavering commitment—to uplift, empower, and transform lives.
