8-Day Residential Computer Workshop for Visually Impaired Individuals – 2026 Successfully Concludes at VIT Vellore
Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust, in association with Darshini and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore, successfully organized the 8-Day Residential Computer Workshop for Visually Impaired Individuals – 2026 from 18th to 25th May 2026.
This landmark initiative brought together more than 100 visually impaired school and college students from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, providing them with intensive hands-on training in digital literacy, assistive technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), screen reader technology, computer applications, and independent digital learning.
The workshop was conducted with an excellent trainer-to-student ratio of approximately 1:7, ensuring personalized attention and practical learning for every participant. In addition to mastering computer applications, students also explored computer hardware through hands-on sessions, making technology more accessible and easier to understand.
The Inaugural Ceremony was graced by Dr. D. Najumnissa Jamal, Professor and Head, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology. We sincerely thank her for accepting our invitation and inspiring our participants with her thoughtful address. Her encouraging words and commitment to inclusive technology made the inauguration truly memorable.
Throughout the workshop, participants experienced VIT's world-class infrastructure, advanced computer laboratories, comfortable accommodation, excellent transportation facilities, and nutritious meals. More importantly, they experienced the warmth, compassion, and inclusiveness shown by the VIT administration, faculty, staff, volunteers, housekeeping, transport, hostel, and catering teams. Their dedicated service made every participant feel welcomed, respected, and empowered.
The Valedictory Ceremony was graced by Dr. Shankar Viswanathan, Vice President, Vellore Institute of Technology, whose inspiring address encouraged students to embrace technology as a pathway to education, employment, and independent living.
The ceremony was also attended by Mrs. R. Sowmya, Trustee, Darshini; and Ln. Padma, Trustee & Social Worker, Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust. Dr. P. Thayarammal, Founder, Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust.
They congratulated the participants on successfully completing the workshop and appreciated their dedication, perseverance, and outstanding achievements.

These awards recognized their exceptional performance during the workshop and inspired many more visually impaired students to pursue excellence through technology.
Another special highlight of the Valedictory Ceremony was the felicitation of visually impaired students who secured more than 90% marks in the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Public Examination – 2026, recognizing their remarkable academic achievements.
The entire workshop—from planning and participant coordination to training, accommodation, logistics, and the successful conduct of both the inaugural and valedictory ceremonies—was meticulously coordinated by Dr. R. Raja, President & Managing Trustee of Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust, whose dedicated leadership ensured the smooth and successful execution of this large-scale residential program.
This meaningful initiative was made possible through the continued support of Mrs. Ramani, Trustee, VIT, the VIT administration, Darshini, our dedicated instructors, volunteers, and every member of the VIT family, whose collective efforts made this workshop an unforgettable experience.
