A Touch of Wings – An Emotional Field Trip

Date: 19.04.2026

Venue: Rajali Birds Park, Thanjavur.

Participants: Students of Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust.

"Vision is not just about what the eyes see, but what the heart feels." This was beautifully proven during the recent field trip organized for our vision-disabled students staying at the Thaaikarangal Trust Hostel.

A Dialogue with Nature

For students who have only known birds through their songs, this trip opened a whole new world. Guided by the kindness of Mr. Shubham and Mrs. Gayathri Shubham, our students were given the rare opportunity to interact with birds through the sense of touch.

The Strength of the Ostrich: The students felt the sheer power of nature as they fed greens to the ostriches, feeling the strength of their beaks through their fingertips

A Gentle Embrace: In the Lovebirds enclosure, the students were overwhelmed with joy as dozens of tiny birds perched on their hands. Feeling the delicate weight and soft feathers of these creatures brought tears of joy to many.

Bonds Beyond Sight

The parrot sanctuary was a highlight of the day. The parrots nuzzled the students, sitting on their shoulders and interacting like old friends. The lack of sight was replaced by a profound emotional connection, as the students "saw" the vibrant life of the birds through their gentle nudges and chirps.

The day concluded with a serene experience at the fish pond, where the students felt the rhythmic movements of fish brushing against their feet—a moment of pure, sensory bliss.

Gratitude

Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Shubham for their generosity and for making this world-expanding experience possible for our students. Such initiatives play a vital role in building confidence and bringing the colors of the world to the hearts of those with vision disabilities.
