Laptops Presented to Visually Impaired Higher Education Students

On 12 July 2026, Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust proudly supported the educational journey of two deserving visually impaired female students by providing them with **laptops worth ₹1,00,000.

Ms. Dhanalakshmi, from Namakkal, and Ms. Maheshwari, from Tenkasi, are pursuing higher education while staying at the hostel supported by Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust. Alongside their academic studies, both students have also received computer training through our Trust and have developed strong digital skills.

Recognising the vital role technology plays in higher education, the Trust provided each student with a laptop to help them pursue their studies with greater freedom, confidence and independence.

Technology That Creates Independence

For a visually impaired student, a laptop is much more than a device. It can open the door to a world of information and learning.

With their own laptops, the students can now:

  • Read and access digital books and study materials independently using screen-reading technology.
  • Search for information online without having to depend on others for every learning need.
  • Prepare assignments, presentations, projects and academic documents independently.
  • Take notes, organise study materials and manage their academic work more efficiently.
  • Attend online classes, training programmes, webinars and other learning opportunities.
  • Communicate and collaborate with teachers, classmates and others through digital platforms.
  • Access educational resources in accessible digital formats at their own convenience.
  • Continue developing their computer and digital skills, which are increasingly important for higher education and future employment.

Most importantly, the laptop gives them a greater sense of reading freedom and learning independence—the ability to choose what they want to read, when they want to read it and how they want to organise their learning.

For visually impaired students, access to technology can significantly reduce dependence on others and create greater opportunities for education, communication, participation and self-reliance

From Access to Empowerment

This initiative reflects the Trust's belief that providing a visually impaired student with the right technology is not simply about giving them a computer. It is about giving them access to knowledge, freedom to learn and the confidence to move forward independently.

The laptops will support Dhanalakshmi and Maheshwari not only in their present academic journey but also in building the digital skills they need for their future careers and personal independence.

This initiative is one more step towards ensuring that visually impaired students have the resources and opportunities they need to pursue their dreams without unnecessary barriers.
