Global Celebration of Inclusion & Accessibility – 2025
Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust, in association with the Lions Club of Golden Hands, successfully organised the Celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Sunday, 14 December 2025, at the A.C.S. Medical College campus, Velappanchavadi, Chennai.
The event was celebrated with great enthusiasm and overwhelming participation. Approximately 750 visually impaired individuals along with their assistants took part in the programme, making it one of the most impactful and memorable celebrations organised by the thaaikarangal in recent years.
Celebrating Abilities and Inclusion
The programme was designed to celebrate the abilities, talents, and achievements of the visually impaired community. The day-long celebration included sports competitions, cultural programmes, quiz activities, a special music concert, and an award ceremony, all of which were received with immense joy and participation.
The vibrant atmosphere reflected the spirit of inclusion, confidence, and empowerment, reinforcing the Trust’s commitment to creating equal opportunities and dignified spaces for visually impaired individuals.
Special Awards and Recognitions
As part of the valedictory session, special awards were presented to honour outstanding achievements within the visually impaired community:
- Best Visually Impaired Student Award was presented to Mr. Anand, recognising his academic excellence and dedication.
- Best Visually Impaired Entrepreneur Award was awarded to Mr. Thamaraiselvan from Dharmapuri District, in appreciation of his self-reliance, entrepreneurial spirit, and contribution to society.
- Best Reader Award for the Visually Impaired was conferred upon Ms. Shashikala Subramanian, honouring her lifelong passion for reading and her inspirational role in promoting knowledge and learning.
These recognitions stood as a testament to the determination, resilience, and potential of the visually impaired community.
Support and Collaboration
The Trust expresses its deep gratitude to the management of A.C.S. Medical College for generously providing the grounds, sports equipment, venue, drinking water facilities, and medical support free of cost, which played a crucial role in the smooth and safe conduct of the event. Immediate medical assistance was made available to participants whenever required, ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout the day.
The success of the event was also made possible through the dedicated efforts of volunteers, special invitees, supporters, and well-wishers who stood with Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust in making this celebration meaningful and impactful.

This year’s celebration reaffirmed the belief that inclusion is not just an idea, but a collective responsibility. The overwhelming participation and positive response have encouraged the Trust to continue strengthening its efforts toward empowerment, education, and social inclusion of the visually impaired community.
