Milestone Achievement: Visually Impaired Women Defy All Odds to Master Sewing Skills

Darshini, in collaboration with Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust, the successfully conducted a 10-day Residential Sewing Training Camp from 5 May to 14 May 2026 at the Indira Nagar Women’s Association Hall. The programme was designed to empower visually impaired women with practical tailoring skills that can lead to sustainable employment and financial independence.

An Inspiring Journey of Determination

The training camp witnessed an extraordinary display of perseverance, confidence, and talent. Despite the challenges posed by visual impairment, the participants demonstrated that determination and the right support can overcome every obstacle.

Within just ten days, the trainees successfully learned skills that many would consider difficult even for sighted individuals, including:

  • Independently threading a sewing machine needle using a needle-threading device.
  • Operating sewing machines with confidence and producing straight, neat, and accurate stitches.
  • Taking body measurements and cutting fabric independently.
  • Stitching garments such as skirts and nighties.
  • Producing eco-friendly cloth bags with precision and confidence.

The remarkable progress achieved in such a short period reflects the participants' dedication and eagerness to become self-reliant.

A Journey Beyond Training

This programme marks the beginning—not the end—of their journey toward economic empowerment.

Thaaikarangal Charitable Trust will continue to provide guidance, advanced training, mentoring, and practical support to help these women refine their tailoring skills and develop sustainable livelihoods.

Our long-term vision is to enable every participant to become financially independent through self-employment, home-based tailoring units, or micro-enterprises, thereby leading lives of dignity, confidence, and self-reliance.

Our Heartfelt Gratitude

This successful initiative would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the Darshini. We express our sincere gratitude to the dedicated members and mothers of the organization for their generous encouragement, commitment, and invaluable contribution in making this programme a grand success.

We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to every participant whose determination and hard work have transformed this training into a remarkable milestone.

Their achievement stands as an inspiration to society and a powerful reminder that disability is never a barrier to learning, growth, or success.

"Learn a Skill. Build Confidence. Achieve Financial Independence."
